This afternoon I'll head back to Pittsburgh. Can't wait to see my girls!
Today I'm thanking God for a fruitful week in Philadelphia. We continue to experience favor with pastors, businessmen, and new friends who live in Philadelphia. Here are some highlights from this trip:
- Spent a morning with two young men who will be a part of our church planting residency.
- Had the opportunity to preach in two neighborhoods on Sunday--my first opportunity to preach in Philly!
- Spent a few days in the city without a car. It was a great opportunity to figure out Septa (the public transportation system).
- Spent large chunks of time in some of the neighborhoods we're considering. So good to walk, worship, pray, and meet people.
- A couple of potential meeting locations emerged. God continues to give us options!
- Met with a group of about 12 pastors who are passionate about church planting in Philadelphia. They've welcomed us with open arms.
- Spent a few hours with the Vice President of Cardone Remanufacturing. They're the largest remanufacturing company in the world, and operate out of 1,000,000 square feet of space in Northeast Philly. They have a huge heart for the city and employ thousands of residents.
- Spent a day at Valley Forge Christian College. They've invited us to help teach their urban ministries class in the fall, and are excited about partnering with us in other ways as we plant the church.
Right now is a time of making investments. We're investing time in relationships, contacts, study, research, and prayer. Waiting in faith and expectation to see what God will do with it all!
To top it all off, March Madness begins today. One of my favorite times of the year!
Wow! Sounds like some pretty awesome things are beginning to emerge in Philly. I am looking forward to see what you thought of some of the different neighborhoods. I'll be in touch later this week.
