Wow! This past weekend was a whirlwind!
On Thursday afternoon I found out that due to an unavoidable change of plans our guest speaker for the Breakthrough Weekend couldn't make it. Fortunately, my in-laws came in on short notice. My father-in-law has been through the Breakthrough Weekend at Allison Park Church many times and was a huge help in teaching two of the sessions.
Here are a few takeaways:
It is good to depend on the Holy Spirit. I ended up teaching three sessions on Friday and Saturday, and preaching our service on Sunday morning on very short notice. I usually prepare well in advance, so it was a stretching experience. On Sunday morning I felt like God was leading me to take a step of faith, so I actually left my sermon notes in the green room. As a result, I experienced a fresh surge of faith as I preached.
As a pastor, I desperately want our people to experience wholeness. We're all broken inside. This weekend was about opening our hearts and allowing Jesus total access. I loved seeing so many in our church take off the mask and get real!
It felt like God's Presence escalated throughout the weekend. Yesterday it almost felt tangible.
I'm so grateful for the Body of Christ. Two churches really served us to make this weekend a reality. Thanks to Allison Park Church and Rochester First Assembly for sending prayer partners and materials to invest in our people.
I look forward to further developing the Breakthrough Weekend as a regular part of our discipleship process!
