Like so many, I've been prayerfully watching the news regarding the collapse of the 35W bridge in Minneapolis. And perhaps because I identify with them, I'm praying for pastors in the area to have the wisdom and opportunity to serve their city in the wake of tragedy.
Bethlehem Baptist, the church John Piper leads, is within eye-sight of the bridge. This is what he wrote three hours after the bridge fell. You need to read it. Honestly, I can't imagine anything more powerful being written.
Here's a taste:
The word bridge does not occur in the Bible. There may be two reasons. One is that God doesn't build bridges, he divides seas. The other is that usually his people must pass through the deadly currents of suffering and death, not simply ride over them.
Piper's comments are amazing! Wow, when I went to North Central, I drove over this bridge all the time.

I drove over it all the time, too. It's scary the way it just...fell! I enjoyed John Piper's thoughts on the tragedy. I also enjoyed his daughter's view. My daughter says great stuff like that all the time. I'm amazed at what kids understand.
