This morning I had breakfast with Tim Way. Tim has lived in Uganda. He's also led several teams on trips into various parts of the country. I wanted to pick his brain in preparation for my upcoming trip to Northeast Uganda. Can't believe it's almost here. We fly out Thursday!
We'll be working in the Karamoja region. Tim was a little jealous:) It's one of the few regions of the country he hasn't visited. He did let us know that within Uganda, the Karamojang are actually stereotyped as backwoods and primitive. They've just recently started wearing clothes.
Tim also said they have a warrior mindset. Apparently they are typically excluded from national scirmishes because the government knows they'll fight back. In fact, the rite of passage for a boy entering manhood involves killing a lion.
I like that. I'm thinking we should adopt something similar in Michigan. Of course we'd have to hunt something more common to us than lions; maybe Ohio State fans:)
Easy on the Ohio State fans there big B! Don't be madd Brad, just cause you guys haven't reached a NCAA Tournament in a close to decade:)

The Karamojong are indeed warriors. I have lived and worked in Uganda for 8 years (I knew Tim Way)...and, I've been in the Northeast with the Karamojong. It might interest you to know that the ministry that I work for Hosanna/Faith Comes By Hearing (http://www.fcbh.org) is right now in the process of recording and producing the dramatized audio New Testament in the Karamojong language. We will work with World Vision and some other organizations to establish Bible Listening groups among the Karamojong ... they will listen about one hour a week to the New Testament in their own language for about 4 to 6 months...from Matthew to Revelation.
A the same time this is happening I am working with a congregation in Chicago to fund the production of the dramatized audio New Testament in the Pokot language. The Pokot are the centuries long mortal enemies of the Karamojong across the border in Kenya. There is a move of God among the Pokot and some warriors are coming to Christ ... but, they are 99% illiterate. So, as we produce the Karamojong audio New Testament...we'll also be producing the Pokot audio New Testament.

You could hunt lions in Michigan, the only problem is they don't fight back. We witness their defeat 16 Sundays each year.
