Over the past three years I've gotten in the habit of going to the polls toward the end of the voting hours. My past experience has been that the lines were shorter. Not last night.
I arrived at precinct #6 a few minutes before closing time and they locked the doors behind me. I was last in line on a day that broke the record for voting turnout in my precinct. I got ballot number 1040 out of 1040 people in my precinct who voted.
When I finally got to the front of the line at about 9.15, the volunteers were elated to see me. They cheered. I gave them high fives. We hugged. It was a powerful moment:)
I humbly told them all that I should receive some type of recognition:) So they put a smiley face sticker in the center of my forehead. Then I posed with the two ladies collecting the ballots. All I had on me was my camera phone, but I promised them that I'd find a way to get our picture on the internet.
So this post is dedicated to all the fantastic volunteers at precinct number 6. Thanks for sticking around until the end!
