Today is a contrast in team dynamics. This morning Ryan, our Origin pastor who oversees our church planting ministry, taught part 2 of the Narnia series. Our theme was Tempting Turkish Delight. Ryan's a thinker and always has deep thoughts. This morning was no exception. Fortunately for the rest of us he also knows how to simplify it all. He did great.
Team teaching is something I'm focusing on more in our church. Others on our team have unique perspectives that they bring to various topics. Sharing the teaching responsibility is also a good way to remind our church that it's not all about me. Not to mention taking a break from time to time helps keep me fresh. Nobody likes a stale sermon. It was a good team experience.
Tonight is the other side of team as I prepare to watch my football team, the Detroit Lions. I'm hopelessly hooked. Even though we're playing the Packers at Lambeau Field at the end of a season in which the wheels have come off, I have to watch. I can't help it. It's some kind of sick obsession.
We haven't won in Green Bay in 14 years. It will be freezing. We have no offensive firepower. Our backup quarterback is starting on a bad leg. The other quarterback is Brett Favre. I'm not fooled by the fact that he's having a down year at the end of his career. I've been following the Lions long enough to know that Brett Favre always sticks a dagger in our hearts.
Kickoff is in less than two hours. In about 6 hours I'll go to sleep with a familiar feeling in my stomach. It's a crushed hope feeling made extra bitter because I should have seen it coming.
The Lions are a bad team, but their my team, and that is a sickness that I don't know how to cure.
Hey, Brad, great blog! I'm another Detroiter (Ypsilanti) and a Lions fan. I knew more had to be out there. Keep up the good work, be blessed.

"The [fill in blank with team name]are a bad team, but they're my team..." Those are the words of a true fan. Firm words. Sad words. Words that a Cowboys fan can relate to all too well.
