Several people have asked me this week how my painting went. I guess that's what I get for mentioning it in my sermon Sunday. Well, I'm now typing for the first time in my brand new blue study. The study isn't new, but the blue is. The color is actually provence, but in the spirit of simplicity I'll call it blue.
I do have to admit that the conclusion of the project was a bit discouraging. I thought it was a pretty good paint job until I took the tape off the corners of the room. My painting around the molding left much to be desired.
So in honor of what could very well be the final painting project of my life, here are four post-painting thoughts (in no particular order). I think they'll also work for life.
Preparation is the key. If you tape well, you paint well. If I would have prepared better the final product would be much better. Isn't that true with ministry and life?
God does better at getting sin off my heart then I do at getting paint off my molding. That's good news.
Don't drip. In other words, keep it clean. Sloppy mistakes leave a mark and they're hard to fix.
Those are my post-painting tips. Now I think I'll BLEACH it all and start over!
Hey Brad,
Don't feel so bad.
Painting is a skill
that comes with a strong will,
the will to persevere
and overcome the fear
that lurks in all of us a little
who began from an easle.
(Although talent is helpful, but not required)
So don't fret
by just letting the paint set,
if you've learned something
then the project was not for nothing.
